Description
I got sick of setting up scences from scratch everytime I started a new work so I made this. It is simply a maya file with all the things I usualy need in a scence. Most of my most recent works have started off as this template.
Useage: make this a 'read only' file so that you can't save over it and dump it in with the rest of your maya files. When starting a new work just load up this file and go to it.
Note: THis will only work in Maya 6 or higher.
If please let me know if its of any use and any way you think it can be improved apon.
Whats in it:
- A ground plane on its own restricted layer
- A skydome on its own restricted layer, ready for a HDRI image
- A camera with a compostion grid on its own restricted layer
- A bunch of addtional layers for geometry
- A spot light shineing on most of the ground plane, casting a raytraced shadow.
- A bunch of basic different colored materials(I'm always selecting a whole bunch of objects or faces then realiseing I dont have a material to apply to them yet)
-Render gobals set up for a 640x480 test render with Final Gather on.
Enjoy

Thank you very much for this. Lighting has never been my specialty, and I was able to pick apart how you did this and learn from it. Cheers!
